Choose a life doing the things you love
If you’re to receive an email from your future self today, it’ll probably contain well-meant advice that you’ll be wise to heed. Your future self will know all about the ups-and-downs that characterize your life. One moment you’re on top of your game and the next you’re down in the dumps again. Just when you think you’re finally getting ahead, something happens and you need to start all over again – the classical ‘one step forward, two steps back’- scenario.
Many people on their deathbeds will express sincere regret for not having done more with their lives. With their last breaths they’ll wish they’d spent more time with their loved ones. They’ll bemoan the fact that they didn’t take the time to smell the roses along the way. They’ll mourn for the lives they had lead in which they hadn’t done the things they love and enjoy.
There’s no use crying over spilled milk. You can’t turn back the clock and make another attempt at living your life. In fact, you can cry all you want but you can’t change the past.
Omar Khayyam, famous 12th-century poet, wrote the following poem:
“The Moving Finger writes; and, having writ,
Moves on: nor all thy Piety nor Wit
Shall lure it back to cancel half a Line,
Nor all thy Tears wash out a Word of it.”
Start doing the things you love
You can only change your here and now. You can decide to live the kind of life you’ll smile upon one day when you find yourself with one foot in the grave. From now on forward, you can spend more time with your precious loved ones, smell the blooming roses, and do what you love to do. Live a conscious life that’ll continuously reward you with a sense of deep satisfaction and accomplishment.
Your future self will most probably advise you to not waste a single moment on merely surviving to exist. Life’s so much more than just scraping by till month end and then for the cycle to begin all over again. Life’s all about rich and rewarding experiences. It’s about counting the freckles on your daughter’s nose, it’s about feeling the warm comforting rays of the sun on your cheek, and it’s about doing the things you love to do.
Maddy Malhotra, author and motivational speaker, once wrote:
“IT’S MY CHOICE
I get a gift every morning, the gift of a new day,
It’s up to me whether I make it bright, joyful or grey.
I can choose to be Happy, Successful and Content,
Or dishonor it with worry, anger or resent.”
Choose today how your life will look like when you look back on it one day. Choose a worthy life that’ll bring you much happiness and contentment. Follow your heart and spend your time with those you love and do the things you love.
Don’t look back some day, regretting that you neglected to put decent Insurance cover in place!
